The Playa Cocles is small village on Caribbean coast just south of Puerto Viejo, Limon, Costa Rica. It is a very small town; there are only two stores, a school and a soccer field. Cariblue is actually located 150 meter. Local is calling this as “beach break” as there is no coral reef, the waves break directly on the beach. Beach break was awarded the Blue Flag for ecological quality, and is one of the most popular beaches in the area. Cariblue supports the 24 hours lifeguard program at Playa Cocles. Local businesses have contributed to pay for lifeguards at Playa Cocles to help keep beaches safe. It is also the only beach on the Caribbean coast that has life guard service 7 days a week. The people of Playa Cocles are friendly, a common factor to all small towns. The community has a strong and varied cultural background, consisting mostly of Latino Ticos and Afro-Caribbean’s, with a small number of foreign immigrants mixed in. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, and you can see people standing around in the street laughing and talking. The soccer field is the main focus of the community. People get together once a week for the big soccer game, the only big event in town. Soccer is the national sport of Costa Rica and usually draws a big crowd.
The beaches in this region are excellent. It has impressive waves for surfers.The other beaches near Playa Cocles are also wonderful and attractive. The wave is inspiring for surfing; there are several spots where you can find quiet, protected pools and they are ideal for swimming. The beautiful white sands, rich greenery and clear blue Caribbean Sea make this a favorite tourist spot and will leave you breathless. Getting to Puerto Viejo / Cocles
It is located 130 miles from San Jose and 9 miles south of Cahuita. Just south of Puerto Viejo, visitors will discover the inspiring beaches of Playa Cocles, Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva. The dirt road connecting the villages is often in poor shape and full of potholes, though road repair vehicles labor daily to improve conditions. Beachfront cabins, restaurants and shops line the street, almost all the way to Manzanillo.
